“I have been teaching Femigami for the past 7 years. My journey into the world of paper-folding started after a diagnosis of generalised anxiety disorder and later ADHD. I found origami had a soothing effect on me, with the rhythmic process leading me into a 'flow' state which eased mind.
I started teaching friends how to fold various designs including what some people consider ‘taboo’ body parts such as vulvas, breasts and penises. To my surprise, making and decorating these unconventional paper creations wasn’t only fun, it helped us talk more openly about our bodies and wellbeing.
Nowadays, you'll find me sharing the joys of Femigami making with a wide variety of groups at places such as galleries, festivals, education settings and libraries.
Through my Femigami workshops, I aim to promote the importance of bodily autonomy, caring for ourselves and respecting others, making connections across all genders, generations and backgrounds, while honouring the roots of this ancient art-form.
In 2022 I created the first feminist origami instruction kit. I am also a trained mindfulness practitioner (Pocket Mindfulness With Emily) and writer for a national mental health charity.

"Femigami made for a fabulous afternoon, Emily was thoughtful about the type of event we needed, sensitive to embodiment and wellbeing, and not least fun to have host our workshop session! Thank you, Emily!."
